Description

Oil Panting on Canvas
Psycho pomp = Soul Bearer
One of my favorite paintings..
As I already stated surrealism gives complete freedom on the interpretation of the content of every surreal work of Art...
But as I've seen that some spectators wish to have an interpretation of the creator, I give a reading of this painting, keeping for myself every right to change it..
And of course, I accept every reading of the spectators as equally true and valid...
An old man sits and reads his newspaper while the day is ending... He ignores that all life is passing in front of him, from the wild horses of youth (now a memory toy) to the sad beauty that passes him by...In front of him are an edifice real and fantastic at the same time... A church is on the background welcoming and uninviting at the same time... A giant butterfly, the soul bearer ( The psycho pomp ) is sitting on his head, preparing to take flight... All this the old man ignores preferring the news of others, reading his newspaper...
Two things in favor of this interpretation:
1) The panic or repulsion this image produced on some elderly spectators (one of them wanted to buy it, if I could paint off the butterfly)
2) The final buyer was a psychoanalyst...

Love the painting, and the description, I would add that the old man's disregard is equally prevalent in the young :)
