The complete image!!!
Oil on Linen Canvas
The idea came to me, seen the magnificent statue of Perseus, made by Benvenuto Cellini (1500 -1571 AC) which is in Loggia dei Lanzi, in Piazza della Signoria, in my beloved city of Florence...
In reality Perseus holds the head of Medusa, with the hair full of snakes, and the idea that one must hold the beauty in life, even if it is ephemeral like a butterfly, instead of the tragedy and pain, came to me...
Only beauty, kindness and Art make life bearable....
Tassos Kouris

(I would like to add my friend's Jurgen Doe comment as it presents in few words all that Cellini has sculpted in this statue :
"Outstanding and very impressive image my dear friend and I do remember the bronze statue of Perseus with the head of the gorgon Medusa. Amazingly you also added the details on the base of his father Jupiter and the multi-breasted Diana of Ephesus. Even the grotesque details very often used by Cellini are not missing in this fabulous image. I love the curved sword, a gift of Mercury and you also added the winged sandals and the winged helmet what resembles Mercury's hat. What I like very much is that you choose to change the head of Medusa with the beauty of a butterfly. The wide open background compliments the story of Perseus who flew far and wide over the open land and sea. Magnificent style and incredible detailed painting. Excellent work and if I wouldn't know that we have 2008 I would say you painted this 6 centuries ago :)")

The Capture Of Beauty by *anubis is a true surreal masterpiece which reflects, with technical and conceptual mastery, on the myth of Perseus through the imagery of Cellini. Classical approach filled with symbolism and detail, this is indeed victory through the pursuit of beauty. ( Featured by `stigmatattoo )

Probably one of the better paintings on this site, although the table looks like it's floating and the greens on the man look like mould?
